San Pedro Prepares for Wildfire Season

The municipality of San Pedro has declared itself ready to prevent and combat possible forest fires by presenting its Contingency Plan 2025 during the Ordinary Session of the Civil Protection Committee. Farah Giacomán, secretary of the City Council, mentioned that various municipal area secretaries are participating in the committee to ensure coordination in case of emergencies.

The director of Civil Protection of San Pedro, Gilberto Almaguer Meléndez, emphasized the importance of coordination among municipal departments to prevent the spread of fires, having addressed 15 fires so far this year. He highlighted the constant training of Civil Protection elements and volunteers to combat urban and forest fires.

Almaguer Meléndez stressed the relevance of being prepared for the possibility of fires, with scheduled training for protection elements. Training has been conducted for several months and will conclude with a training session on March 28, where 50 elements will participate in topics related to forest and urban fires.

"No one is exempt, but that's why this type of organization exists, to prevent these kinds of things," said Farah Giacomán. Coordination among municipal areas is key to effectively and quickly combat fires, avoiding greater damage to vegetation, infrastructure, and human lives.
